Ok! around the net there are multiple, thousands, MILLIONS of articles both for and againts the use of web two for teaching.

first though we should read an article on web 2.0 in all its forms this article is by Tim O’Reilly. he discusses the use of web 2.0, what it is and how it differs from web 1.0. have  a read for yourself!

so as you can see, web two has a vast majority of uses!!!

an excellent in-depth article byBryan Alexander. it delves into the the idea of an innovative new way to teach by using web two and all its counterparts! it goes through the concepts of Del.ico.us, wikis and all sorts of web two activities.

well after all of these posts about the world of web two, it is probably important to link this to education somehow! using Web two in conjunction with education is a new, innovative way to teach our students. the use of web two will allow students to use the internet, which is fast becoming the only way to communicate, and collaboration. bouncing ideas off each other to create a new concept. better yet, using web two will enable students to access infomation quickly to construct their own ideas and concepts.

a major aspect of web two is the communication and community ideals that it presents. a good way to introduce students to concepts, or even assess students on particular concepts is the wiki. wiki’s enable students to put infomation together as a team (collaboration) and add comments/new infomation the moment it becomes available (communication). wikis are private, only authorised people can change the infomation on the wiki, many can comment but limited can add to it. this allows the infomation being posted to be controlled in some ways.

Another great thing about web two and Education is the idea of community sites such as facebook and myspace. it may seem strange to students that they will develop a facebook/myspace page for their school work…in fact it seemed strange to me aswell, however after much thought it does seem to make sense. you see developing online communication/community sites allows students to talk to their peers about their topic/school concept being discussed. you will be suprised that in actual fact student s wont really want their friends hanging around on their school work website, as it is probably not that cool.

using facebook as a teaching device will ultimately bring the class together, you will be able to learn new things from the students and about the students. students nowdays can go past the usual passive internet/computer period in class and activly engage with their learning!

all-in-all it makes perfect sense to me that students should be getting involved with web two in aiding their education!

im going to introduce to you the sites Flickr and digital chalkie!

first flickr:

to be honest i found this site very dificult to work out and therefore do not think that it is a good site to post photos to, especially when you have facebook or myspace (moer on these in later postings). however in  saying that poeple have succsefully joined the race of flickr’s and have posted photos to it. this site enables one ot be across the other side of the world and send their photos home via this site. personally when you have myspace or facebook or just plain email, this seems irrelevant. i would not use flickr for my students when im teaching simply because there are many more sites that are much easier to use and do the same thing.

digital chalkie:

ok just to clarify, chalkie is a nickname for teachers…chalkie/chalk get it!!! anyway this site gives teachers various activities for students that involve web two, all around it is a great site!it helps out teachers who find the technology world a bit daunting, gives infomation about new ways to use ICT in teaching!

definatley i would use this site to teach my students!

Hello again!!

last time i told you that i would be introducing you to the wonderful world of the wiki!. well since then my friends and i set up our own educational wiki..to tell YOU all about the going on of the education world! before i unleash soymocha onto you i would like you to learn a little about social computing..that is wiki’s..who better to teach us something about wikis then the old faith full wikipedia.

note: wikipedia is a collaboration of edits from people all over the world…with and without degrees. although it is a quick way to get infomation ALWAYS double check it with a site that has been certified by people with academic qualifications.

so its off to wikipedia we go!!!

phew! welcome back! so now you can see how web two is really about social computing! we can join forces with other ‘experts’ about ideas and learn from each other..very important. learning is not something you should do by yourself, but something that will be more beneficial is you do it with someone else!.

this is the name of our wiki that we are working on…COLLABORATION! it is a group project therefore the responsibilty is shared amongst us to fill our online whiteboard with infomation to help everyone learn about web two and learn about alternate styles of education!

a major factor about the wiki is that it needs to have some structure! well not some more like a lot of structure otherwise it would be pretty much all over the place!. we all need direction and our wiki is no exception!

our wiki is our online whiteboard..we can all add infomation to it, but only we can do it so it makes it personal to our style! another way to think of our wiki is an online classroom. im all for traditional style classrooms but sometimes it is not practical, our pbwiki is our tool for communicating information when we are all apart!

why do we have a wiki? well to enforce this whole concept of web two…it is a read and write style of internet! we all can read what each other has to say and we can write something that we find useful!

as this is my first post i thought it would be handy to tell you about what this blog will be about.

well to start with this is an Education assignement for uni, where i will post infomation about web two!

so what is web two??

well web two is all about using the internet as a communication and learning device. it is about activly involveing yourself in communities around the web rather than just passivley enjoying the vast content range!

who are the leaders pioneering the way we use the web?? i hear you ask…well that would be everyones resident internet know-it-all GOOGLE. Beyond what you use google for everyday, this pioneering search engine also has a wide range of extras, such as Blogger, spreadsheet and docs, etc..Google really is making web two more fun and useful..after all engaging with what you are doing is the most efficient way of learning!!

ok so that is telling you about the pioneers of Web two but do you really understand the Web two world?? maybe not!

it is esesntially an increasing range of software that supports a variety of technologies for open and collaborative communication, learning and creativity. it requires:

1. a platform
2. social networking
3. read/write web
4. social software
5. gathering and sorting

so you see web two is essentially all about socialising! which for people like us is essential in learning new things…chances are you now know about web two..if you were paying attention..

web two is all about construction! so dont just stare blankly and passivly into the abyss of the internet! get up off that thing and construct from what you read!!! GET ACTIVE!
